Companies should now be considering what to do marketing strategy wise and how to balance their risks.

Company owners should be conducting their strategic audits as well as asking some fundamental questions.

What should companies do today or in the short term? Monitor and analyse!  Businesses should start the process of analysing and monitoring and not make any knee jerk decisions.

Mid-term companies should have contingency planning in place that will consider different scenarios and balance risk.  Managers should develop and implement agile and flexible strategies that will allow this. They should critically evaluate marketing investment levels and what impact the scenarios will have on the P&L.  For example, has a continued weakening pound or supply side threat from outside of the UK caused a problem.brexit-550 by 200

Longer term, boards should consider their capital investment plans. There will inevitably be long-term projects which require capital investment.  These need to be considered and the marketing impact assessed.  Many UK companies supply local and EU markets.  Some through distribution and agents and some via local offices.  Investments in location and channel development should be considered and contingencies put in place. This begs the question, where should I base my operations?
